Year-Round Programming & Roseway's Restoration

St. Croix, USVI

Eden Leonard

World Ocean School is proud to celebrate Roseway’s 15th St. Croix season, operating from Gallows Bay. The organization’s flagship vessel, the National Historic Landmark schooner Roseway, has travelled over 100,000 miles in the past 15 years to deliver programming in St.Croix each winter, and is now approaching her 100th birthday. As such,  Roseway faces a multi-million dollar, multi-year preservation project and therefore it is likely that as she sets sail in April, Roseway will not return until the preservation project has been completed.

World Ocean School’s commitment to preservation and stewardship of Roseway is captured in the comprehensive Strategic Plan 2022-27 that was formally adopted by the World Ocean School Board of Directors on January 28, at the Company House Hotel in Christiansted.

This plan articulates the following goals:

  • ROBUST & ACCESSIBLE PROGRAMMING: Deepen and expand the impact of programs in the communities we serve.

  • PRESERVATION & STEWARDSHIP: Preserve and steward our National Historic landmark, Roseway, as our flagship, to achieve our mission and inspire our students for years to come.

  • SUSTAINABILITY & INNOVATION: Plan and execute a successful fundraising initiative to achieve long-term organizational sustainability, supporting innovative program development and delivery.

  • DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION & BELONGING: Position World Ocean School as a leader for developing increased DEIB initiatives within our communities.

Specifically this means World Ocean School is committed to providing year-round programming in St.Croix even when Roseway is not in port, as well as securing the use of an alternative vessel for winter programming when Roseway is unavailable.

Roseway is the only National Historic Landmark that sails the oceans over 8,000 nautical miles each year.  World Ocean School is proud to steward Roseway and have her be the flagship classroom and master educator for hundreds of students on St.Croix each year.

World Ocean School will continue to offer sunset sails aboard Roseway out of Christiansted Harbor through the 1st of April. Don’t miss your chance to sail on Roseway before she leaves! Sunset sail ticket purchases help support free programming for local students each day. All sails take place from 4-6pm at the Gallows Bay Port Authority Dock. For more information and a full calendar of sail dates, visit our website.

World Ocean School is grateful for the support of its community and thrilled to have Roseway on the island for another season of impactful sailing and community engagement, they look forward to welcoming you aboard!
