Gifft Hill School (Day 1)

St. Thomas, USVI

3/17/25

Today was our first day on the boat, three crew members came on a dingy: Madie, Maddy, and Sophia, and they picked us up at the National Park in Cruz Bay. Three different groups went on the dinghy and rode to Denis Sullivan; we had to climb a big metal ladder to get on the boat. When everybody reached the boat we all put our stuff in our bunks. After that there was a muster to introduce everyone, and we also talked about a fun question. Then, we split up into our watch groups and took a tour of the boat. Then group B set up for lunch which was chickpeas, quinoa, ground beef, green bread to celebrate St. Patty's day, and there was salad. Soon after, we set sail to a bay near the airport in St. Thomas. We anchored, then we took a swim test and had open swim time. Then, we came up with values for our shipmates and others which included Trust, Respect, Uplifting, Ambition, and Teamwork. Hi, my name is Kimyah and my favorite part of today was when we had open swim time and when we were all getting cleaned up together. My name is Olivia and my favorite part of the day was when we had R&R time, after working hard all day. I am Max. My favorite part of the day was when we played cards on the deck. The funniest part of the day was when we were putting up the sails and everyone was falling over. -from group B.
