Sea Challenge with Sail Portsmouth (Day 1)
Boston
July 21, 2023
What makes this experience unique is that you get to live on a ship and do most of the stuff the crew does. The views that you get to see are amazing and nothing is healthier for you than salt water with salt air. Even though, you have to continuously reach out of your comfort zone, I realized that I will appreciate my time at home much more now.

Our first day was pretty exciting, we had to get used to the ships layout and our chores. However, because of a storm we had to dock on our way to Cape Cod. Today we look forward to going whale watching

Yesterday we had welcomed all of the new students onto the boat. All of the students arrived at the boat by 11:30am. The students were on the boat by 11:45, we then had lunch at noon and after that we did a big circle with everyone on land. We then split into our three watch groups and did a game called the human knot which we did twice. After that we came back together as one big group and went over the community norms. We then went back onto the boat and the students put their stuff in their bunks and did chores. We left the dock and set sail while showing the students around the boat and talking about what they do in case of an emergency and safety in general. By 5:30pm we anchored by the Boston Harbor Islands and took down sails. The students were shown how to coil so the deck doesn’t have a big mess of ropes everywhere. We had dinner at 6:00pm and did chores afterwards. We were caught in a rainstorm with thunder and lightning so we decided to go back to the dock and dock for the night because the rain was pretty bad.
