Week 2 – USVI (DPNR) Boaters Education Course

Activity Log: Week two was all about learning about safe responsible boating on the territorial waters of the United States Virgin Islands.

Online Virgin Islands Boater Education Course: The online boater education course, was provided by BOATERexam.com and approved by National Association of Safe Boating Law Administrators as a required course for anyone between the ages of 12 – older who wish to operate a Personal Water Craft (PWC.) The course is made up of 9 chapters, with end-of-chapter quizzes and a final 60-question exam. It is fully narrated and illustrated and features tons of dynamic content, including hundreds of interactive and narrated animations. BOATERexam.com takes you out of the textbook and into the captain’s seat!

Students Activity: Students reviewed each chapter and completed end of chapter quizzes together. We had open discussions to make it more engaging for the students and allowed each student the opportunity to read practice quiz questions out loud which helped to develop reading skills, and time to think about their responses. This was a great team building experience.

The Final Exam: Students completed the 60-question final exam separately using their individual laptops. We are happy to report that ALL of our WOS students scored a 93% and above! (Below are the pictures of the temporary certificates. Students will receive the permanent VI Boater Safety Education card in the mail. This called for an end of WOS Summer Program pizza party!!)
