Sail Portsmouth Sea Challenge 2022: Day 3

We woke up at 7, and we immediately set the sails. We ate on the deck, and had very delicious potatoes! After breakfast we got assigned our chores and completed them. Then we went into our watch rotations which included active, seamanship, and R&R. During active we did bow watch, but since we were sailing in the open ocean there wasn’t much to see. Then during seamanship we removed and learned where the different lines and pins were, and their function. During the watch rotations we spotted pod of porpoises! On the radar that day it was showing that a small storm was coming towards our boat, so we lowered the sails during the watch rotations. We then had lunch which was bread, veggie sticks, and falafel. We anchored near an island called Great Misery, by that time it started drizzling, and we got ready to adventure on it. After getting across the water to the island, we walked to a field and played capture the flag. It was crew versus students and in the first game the crew won, and in the second game the students won. After playing for a bit and having a snack break we took a walk around the island and saw a big live oak tree. We climbed it and took a photo of everyone on the tree while trying to guess its age, in the end we assumed it was a couple hundred years old. We continued walking and saw a hotel casino ruin with many names engraved in it. Then we got back on the boat and the rain had gotten stronger. We had dinner in the saloon which was barbecue chicken, cornbread muffins, and mashed potatoes. We were given our evening chores ,and after finishing those we had our evening muster to discuss what the next day would bring. Then we played a game called adventure island, and hung out before heading to bed at 10.
