Junior Summer Ambassador 2022: Day 6

New Bedford to Megansett Harbor, MA USA

Log Entry by Hayahn, Mycal, Desmond, Bianca, Ashley, and John (A WATCH!!)

Wednesday, July 6, 2022

Yesterday we started in New Bedford, and we had to do deck sweep instead of deck wash. Then for breakfast we had breakfast burritos. After breakfast we went to the Northeast Maritime Institute (NMI). With NMI, we went to a marina and saw FRITHA, a small schooner. We brought bag lunches and we all got to drive boats in simulators like the students there would. With the simulator it was you driving a tugboat and a Coast Guard cutter. We tried to drive but we all ended up failing, some people hit mines and we got blocked in by sunken cargo ships. After we came back we took docklines off and we left Sienna on shore for the small boat to pick her up. We motor sailed off the dock but then we shut off the motor and we just SAILED. After that A watch got all harnessed up and went out on the bowsprit and we sang songs. A few people were nervous but everyone gave it their best shot and most of us made it onto the bowsprit. After that we took coordinates and charted our position in Buzzards Bay with help from amazing watch leaders Meg and Sienna. We even sailed onto the hook yesterday. That means we dropped the anchor without using a motor. After we set the anchor we had SWIM CALL and took bucket showers. Dinner was noodles and chicken. Then we played salad bowl (charades 2.0) and went to bed. For the anchor watch we had Choc chip banana bread. It was delish.
