Log written by Maddie Carlone, 2023 AmeriCorps Deckhand Educator and Program Coordinator

100 days on Denis Sullivan (affectionately known as Denny) have come and gone and what better way to celebrate this milestone than a soirée?! We had a lovely post-dinner gathering on deck with our fellow tall shippers from Corwith Cramer. Denny was adorned with decorations, string lights, and had many sweet treats on her deck boxes. We “cheers” ’d to the hot sunny days, early mornings, and galley clean ups, to the soles and bowls that are somehow never clean, to the tales of sunset sails, and of course, one was poured out for King Neptune. A lot has happened in 100 days yet, the ocean and Denny remain steadfast and a constant in this ever-evolving world of sailing. Both of these constants offer comfort no matter the seasickness or labor they engender. In 100 days, I’ve learned A LOT, became part of a new community, and have fallen in love with the focsle. My 100 days broken down numerically look like:

-Over 2,000 miles sailed

-5 captains worked with

-13 books read

-1 seasick bout

-2 hats, 1 pair of shorts, 1 towel, 1 earring, and 1 rig knife claimed by the sea

-12 off-day smoothies consumed

-100 times of asking when we can shower next

Only time will tell what the next 265 have in store! Boston we’re coming for ya!
