Log written by Aurora Randolph (2022 AmeriCorps Deckhand Educator)
I awoke to the rocking of our home on the water, and came on deck to the usual business of the ship mid morning. My watch, A, had some lunch made by the ever awesome Jake.
Doing the lunch clean up was "so fun" up on the rocking and wet bow. Coming back to the helm was a lot nicer. At 1430 I got to teach the new crew one of my favorite lessons, sea shanties. We talked about their history and use on ships. Of course we also sang some shanties as well. I love getting a group to sing shanties while underway.
We then finished lessons and moved on to almanacs - they were great this evening! The crew spent the rest of the evening eating another great meal from Jake and enjoying the cool night air. We just tacked and are looking out on the lovely ocean that is lit by a bright full moon. These are the days that make sailors.
Photos to come soon!
