Transit: Continued

Atlantic Ocean

Sailing steadily south towards St. Croix! Actually sailing. We were able to turn our motors off for the first time on the transit. A good 20 knots on our beams and 6-8 foot seas. Clear skies and sunshine. Absolutely lovely day sailing more than 8 knots. The crew is staying busy trimming sails and keeping the boat in order and many are starting to learn celestial navigation, taking new noon sights. Towards the end of the day, the seas kept building and the wind picked up, so we took in some sail so we could take boat in an easier motion. Luckily, everyone has acclimated pretty well, so no one was feeling too sick as we rolled back and forth, as waves washing our deck every now and again. Morale still very high as we started a long night carefully making our way around the deck, checking bilges and trying to stay dry.

Another end to a great day off shore, making way for our destination!

We’ve reached that point where we lose it. The minimal sleep we’ve been getting the past few days has lead to loopy late night watches. Breaking out in song, random dance parties, goofy story telling, and silly get-to-know-you questions all at 00:00. We’ve had fluky winds, pitching waves, soggy bunks, and too many visits to the leeward rail. But then you laugh for four hours straight in the middle of the night and it almost makes it all worth it. We’re all really looking forward to getting to St. Croix, but until then our sleepy, loopy selves will just keep having a good time.
