Summer Ambassador Program (Day 10)

Provincetown, MA

August 11th, 2023

Hello All!

What a fun time it has been on Denis Sullivan! We’re heading back towards Boston, but not taking the quickest route in hopes that we will see some whales! Charismatic mega fauna is one of the reasons I love sailing, so fingers and toes crossed that we are able to spot some on our route!

It’s hard to believe today is my last day cooking for the students and crew. Their excitement and enthusiasm about the meals and midrats (midnight rations) have made it such a pleasure to be here!

I can’t write too long because I need to go start prepping the dough for today’s lunch. Fair winds everyone and remember to send those good vibes our way for an aquatic creature sighting! (Doesn’t have to be a a whale, I’d be hyped for anything swimming by).

-Talia (fearless cook)

Editors note: multiple whales were in fact seen

Yesterday all of the students participated in the deckhand Olympics. It was quite intense, all of the student’s watches were close in terms of points. The tension breaker, however, was C watch winning. As for the deckhand Olympics, I felt pretty good about myself. Helping other watches with chores has made me feel good. Pretty much everything was good yesterday. We went from the State Pier in New Bedford and anchored at Plymouth Rock where the pilgrims arrived (don’t come at me, just an educated guess). Anchor watch was pretty chill, my group got what they needed to get done.

Overall, my time on Denis Sullivan was good. I got to meet lots of new people over the entirety of this trip, and I for one am really glad to have done that. At first I was very hesitant to get on the boat and meet most of these people. That’s mainly because I didn’t know who they were, what they like to do, and where they come from. Now I feel more comfortable around most of the kids on this boat. I also enjoyed going aloft as well as going on the jiboom. Doing these two things really tested my limits and comfort. Now I feel like doing it again!

I’m feeling good so thinking about my cat right now. I eat good food and read a sail book last night. I’ve been play acting darthvader. We went to get ice cream.

I wish I got to tie the square knot in the Olympics. Adam jumped off the boat and swam during the Olympics. It was really close competition but C watch won. The deck Olympics made me feel a lot of joy and some nerves. I’ve made a lot of friends and I got to see my two friends from last year. I love the crew and got to see Big Andy again. Breakfast today was good.
