Senior Summer Ambassador 2022: Day 2

Cape Cod Canal, MA USA

Log Entry by A Watch - Lain, Falcon, Lily, Rio

Saturday, July 30, 2022

On our first full day of sailing, we woke up and ate sausages and potatoes for breakfast. After, we prepared to set the sails. The JWOs taught the students how to set the mainsail. Then we set the sails to leave the East side of Long Island. We got to do a nice stretching activity with Ben. Then we all learned more about navigation from Sienna. We were then split up into our watch groups of active watch, R&R, and seamanship. We ate sandwiches for lunch. We learned more about gybing as well. A Watch was helping with the gybing, and a chart was lost in the process from the wind. During active watch we got to either be forward lookout, help with the boat checks, help at the helm and learn navigation from the Captain. During seamanship we learned some line handling and how to handle them safely, along with how to tie some knots. Then we took in the sails together and anchored near the Cape Cod Canal. Afterwards, the crew got a swim call! Once everyone was done swimming we ate spaghetti for dinner. We did our evening chores and then we enjoyed some free time before lights out. During our anchor watch, A Watch with Meg got to see a bunch of shooting stars and fish. Overall it was a very exciting and busy first full day.
