Boston Harbor, MA, USA

Tuesday, May 31, 2022

Today we boarded the Roseway and got started with all the safety procedures and tours. After this, we started touring the boat and figuring out where the fire extinguishers were in case of emergency. Soon after, we all took part in setting the sails. First, we set the main sail and then moved onto the fore, jumbo and the jib. After a delicious sandwich lunch, we broke into our three different watch groups. In our watches we did three different rotations. We had lessons on seamanship and we got to take turns being on bow watch and steering the ship. Another part of this was active watch. We learned how to keep our eyes on the water and be ready to alert the captain if we saw anything. Later in the afternoon we got to learn and see how all the sails come down and get folded. We also got to learn and see how to sail onto the hook which is how the crew drops the anchor. We had dinner and then did our chores which included cleaning up our dishes. We ended the night with a skit for the introduction to anchor watch and some fun board games!
