Log written by Sathi Bethelmy, Deckhand Educator

We had our daily muster this morning to discuss the course of the day, followed by our customary cleaning and deck washing. While we awaited the arrival of the 5th-grade students, we prepared our sails for the day ahead. After that, we greeted the students and engaged them in a little game called Captain's Coming. We descended toward our wonderful ship, Denny. The captain then welcomed the students on board Denny and gave them a brief safety lecture. Following the safety briefing, we standby to get underway, indicating that we were heading out for a sail. After the students and crew raised the sails, we divided into three groups to work on our lessons. The topics covered in today's classes were knots, water quality, and maritime history. Then, within the allotted time, each group rotated through all three stations. When the lessons were over, we prepared to take in the sails to dock. A magnificent lunch was waiting for us when we returned safely to the port. It was nice that the students and chaperones stayed on board to eat lunch with us. We learned more about the students, including their favorite foods, pastimes, and apps they like such as Tiktoks. We said our goodbyes to the kids and chaperones after lunch. After saying our goodbyes we did some minor projects sure as small boat training & varnishing which then concluded an end of a successful work day.
