Program Kickoff: January in St. Croix

Our current cohort of Americorps Deckhand Educators kicked off the winter education programs in earnest this January! World Ocean School collaborated with old and new partners that month, welcoming back classes from schools such as St. Mary's and Alfredo Andrews as well as a new start with the Caribbean Center for Boys and Girls. The crew first met students in their classrooms to introduce themselves and set expectations for the boat. Once students were prepared for the program, they came on board for up to 4-day trips! Students learned about points of sail, buoyancy, water quality, and got the chance to practice tying their knots and singing sea shanties.
