Caroline B. Joyce, is an EdD. Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, School of Continuing Education and an Affiliate Faculty Member of the UWM-Great Lakes Water Institute. As a program designer and evaluator her focus has been on fresh and ocean water multimedia education for the past 20 years. She was the winner of the UW-Extension Award for Excellence for Outreach Programming. Joyce also was the developer of such freshwater and ocean programs as: NOAA Ocean Data Education Project, for the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation; National Estuarine Research Reserves (NERRS) Estuaries 101 Middle School Curriculum: Where Rivers Meet the Sea; and Director of Curriculum Content Development for such programs as JASON IX Oceans of Earth & Beyond, JASON Foundation for Education, MA.
One of her most fulfilling educational design projects was for the Wisconsin Lake Schooner Education Association, as a board member representing education. She engaged students and the Milwaukee community in interactive learning experiences surrounding the construction of the vessel S/V Denis Sullivan. Forming a team of educators they designed learning platforms for learners to experience the dream of the Sullivan, the building of the Sullivan, to the Sullivan's final reality, a full working schooner. Later, Joyce served on the Board of Directors of Discovery World with a special focus on the Sullivan as the State of Wisconsin's Flagship. Best of all, Caroline's total family worked on some aspect of the construction of the Sullivan, even to signing their names on the keel. Now, when the Sullivan sails from port to port, even to St. Croix, they sail with her.
Caroline looks forward to sharing her design talents with World Ocean Sailing and their beautiful vessels, the Roseway and the Denis Sullivan.
