Bob comes from a lineage of seamen as his ancestors were fishermen in Norway who sailed the Atlantic and settled in Florida. From there his great grandfather ran the shipping lanes up and down the Eastern Seaboard. At age 10, he moved with his family to New Jersey then on to Wisconsin to attend MSOE and UW-M earning a BSEE and meeting his wife Jean. In 1970, they married, settled in a suburb and raised four children. In 2000, the year the Denis Sullivan was launched in Milwaukee Harbor, Bob started his volunteer work as an educator and deckhand. He also worked dockside maintenance, specializing in electrical issues as well as construction projects. He has sailed the Sullivan in several Tall Ship regattas and week-long trips around the Great Lakes and in 2007, followed the family legacy by sailing up the east coast from Florida to Baltimore. His most recent assignment was as the ship’s engineer for Jan-Feb, 2024 in St Croix. Away from the ship, Bob enjoys watching his granddaughters grow into beautiful young women, volunteering at the local Audubon Society, watercolor painting, and listening to live music with friends while enjoying the livations that made Milwaukee famous.
