Sullivan is Splashed, Inspected, and Ready for the River

Burger Boat Company, Manitowoc, WI USA

Beginnings. Yesterday we launched the Sullivan. Very chilly and windy as it had been for several days.

The yard Crew at Burger Boats was wonderful, accommodating and helpful. They had the ship in the travel lift by 0830 or so and were lowering her into water by 0950. There's no room or enough water depth near the yard so as soon as we determined there were no problems we were underway for the Maritime Museum dock.

A quick call to the Manitowoc Bridges got us through without problems and we were soon all secure just forward of the WWII submarine Cobia. We secured the ship and soon after Mr. Richard Baker arrived for our COI inspection. Of course it was lunch time, and while he and I went through the documents the crew ate delicious chicken sandwiches and I had to wait.

Mr. Baker was impressed by the state of the ship and we owe most of that to the Sullivan's volunteers and our crew who recently joined. Big shout out to deckhands Sienna and Maddy who really got the ship together and fought spiders for weeks.

Lastly, we were joined by Jen Scholz and Geoff Geis, first and second mates respectively. This morning we will reset our ship’s log and prepare to transit to Chicago—our step off for our transit south.
