Colorado Springs School (Day 7)
St. John, USVI
3/9/25
BUSINESS!!! B WATCH, IN FACT. Greetings, fellow humans. We did some pretty neato stuff today. We started the day off with a nice breakfast of huevos rancheros and fruit from the GOAT, Chef Jen before jumping right into morning chores. Post-chores, it was time for a beach landing in the small boat Rosemary Shortbread (the artist formerly known as Howard) piloted by our also beloved Chief Mate, Todd. After all fifteen students, three chaperones, and a handful of our World Ocean School crew had landed on St John from our Francis Bay anchorage, we started a little hike to the Annaberg Plantation ruins. At Annaberg, we read a handful of signs describing the history of the plantation, including that the property was sold to George Francis, who was formerly enslaved at that plantation, and he purchased it for only 100 dollars in 1867. As we continued walking away from Francis Bay to our next destination, we made sure to discuss many mergers and acquisitions as we approached Waterlemon (not watermelon) Cay for a great snorkeling adventure. Whilst snorkeling, we saw many a creature, including but not limited to giant crabs, stingrays, starfish, parrotfish, some huge sea urchins, and a lot of sponge action. Post-snorkel, we chilled on the beach, finished our lunches that we had been nibbling at over our walks, and admired our tans (sunburns). On the walk back to Francis Bay to meet up with Rosemary Shortbread again, some members of Business started discussing SCIENCE, including elements and quarks and all sorts of cool stuff (positrons are neat) (and we love thorium). Upon fleeing the beach and returning to Denny, some of us enjoyed another lovely swim call (Keeton loves parentheses so here’s another one). For dinner, we scarfed some teriyaki chicken or tofu, rice, salad, veggies, and some INCREDIBLE poke from our beloved oracle (Todd’s bigeye tuna catch from yesterday, prepared very very well by Jen). Tonight’s activity is choice night, so we will have to see how that unfolds after our nightly muster. This is definitely awesomesauce! Finally, this will be the last ship log from Business while we are aboard our beloved Denis Sullivan. Farewell, business forever for real for real, and we’ll see you when the stocks go down…
