Senior Summer Ambassador 2022: Day 1

Boston Harbor, MA USA

Log Entry by C WATCH - Felix, Cayden, Holland, Charlie and AJ

We started off our first day by learning each other's names and doing icebreaker activities, including learning our first knot – the human knot. We all reached for another random person’s hand and had to untie the knot we all made with our arms. We boarded the Roseway and began to put our stuff away. For practically a million hours, we learned safety procedures. We finally set out at 2 P.M. and refueled.

After refueling, we headed out the channel and set the fore, the jumbo, and the jib. We did our first boat check, played “two truths and a lie,” and ran through a safety tour. We finally anchored off “Long Island”... in Boston.

We went out on the bowsprit and got to furl the jib, overcoming our fears while being just fifteen feet above the deep sea. We were fueled after that by a dinner of chili and rice and later entertained by the crew with a skit about how to wake up our peers for Anchor Watch. An example of a bad way was displayed by someone yelling, stomping, and waking everyone else up. They did not tell them what the weather was like or what time it was. A good example was displayed by quietly waking a person up, not invading their privacy, and informing them of the information they needed to be on deck in a timely manner.

There was a race to put on the emergency “gumby” immersion suits. The underdog almost came back and it was a neck-to-neck race as they zippered their suits as fast as they could. It ended up coming as a tie.

Then we had free time to socialize before our anchor watch and we fell asleep under the roaring airplanes and peaceful ocean.
