Around 1 in the morning I took seasick medication and went to bed in my bunk. I was woken up around 7 am. During chores I helped scrub the sole and for breakfast there was sausage, biscuits and gravy. After breakfast I washed dishes like we do after every meal. We set the sails and afterwards I coiled the lines. At lunch we had chicken noodle soup, homemade bread, and salad. We stopped lunch dishes midway through so we could prepare to sail onto the hook. That was pretty amazing. For sailing onto the hook, everything has to be timed perfectly. I noticed some sweatshirts that were sliding off the deck towards the ocean when we were heeled over, so I grabbed them and stuffed them between some deck boxes so that they wouldn’t fly away.
Once we dropped anchor, we took in sail and I helped daisy chain the jumbo furl. I did a lot of hauling on lines and also helped to flake the main sail as it came down. After setting the anchor we finished cleaning dishes from lunch. When I was on active watch, I spent some time at the bow on forward lookout. I was multitasking at the bow, looking for boats, putting on sunscreen, and trying to get the knots out of my hair. We anchored near Provincetown and took a small boat in. It was not smooth, but I had on foulie pants and jacket, but we still got very wet. The boat got so full of water we had to pump it out as we drove in.
In Provincetown I looked at a couple stores and got some food. I got too much food by accident. I got clam chowder because I can’t not have clam chowder and I also got a cookie and frozen coffee drink. Then I went to CVS to get dry shampoo and hair ties to help maintain my hair in the boat environment. Then I thought I wouldn’t spoil dinner if I got a small ice cream sundae, but I was very wrong. It was good ice cream, but then I didn’t have much room for dinner, which was tacos. I could only eat half a taco.
After dinner, Aurora gave a lesson on sharks, which I thought was very interesting. Our school mascot is a shark! And then we watched a movie called Captain Ron. I was kind of sad because I missed the ending of the movie for my anchor watch shift. It was a pretty calm anchor watch We checked the water levels in the bilges, the batteries, and the bearings. Morgan pumped out the ER bilge. Ben was watching the bilge pump and motioned to me when each bilge was done pumping. While I was waiting for the next boat check, I brushed my teeth on deck and did some journaling. We also tried to come up with ridiculous reasons to wake up the mate because that was our social activity for the night. My favorite was “Whenever you use the head, you have to wake up the mate for permission to pump.”
After my anchor watch I did a quick “air shower” with a brush and dry shampoo. Then I went to bed.
