Tonight I lay in my rack contemplating. We are about a day and a half from Culebra and so about two days from STX. Having been on deck and looked at a clear clear sky for a bit I take some time to think about how small we are and how silly the whole thing seems. You can see the Milky Way Galaxy which I guess has like a billion suns in it and with a clear night like tonight you can see a smudge of stars that is The Andromeda Galaxy. A whole other Galaxy smashing (very slowly) into ours with its own billions of suns. We haven't heard any news, apart from the all important Pat's scores, since leaving Charleston about a week ago. I don't miss it at all. All the things that are so important ashore are replaced by looking after your ship, your shipmates, and yourself. It's no wonder in ancient times sailors at sea were considered to be neither living nor dead. It only takes a day or less to lose the sight of land and once gone it may as well have never been there. This voyage is short. Ten days or so. But it's enough to make you appreciate all the things that are important to you and to realize just how small you are.
