Asher grew up mostly in Vermont, spending summers dinghy sailing in Maine. After teaching sailing for a few summers and spending a semester on a school ship in the Caribbean, he attended Maine Maritime Academy for a 2-year degree. After that, he spent summers in the Windjammer fleet, on daysail boats in Maine and working on educational boats in the south during the winters. Asher has always been interested in sailing history and figuring out a way to preserve tall ships in the future.
When not sailing, he loves spending time out in the woods camping, hiking and skiing, and blasting around in small motorboats
