World Ocean School’s work is vital. It tackles what’s behind the scary statistics facing students. How? By combating student disengagement and apathy. We motivate students from diverse backgrounds by challenging them academically, physically, and emotionally in hands-on programs aboard our historic ship, Roseway.
- Approximately 3 million students drop out of school each year, and even more are disengaging from society on a daily basis.
- 75% of U.S. crimes are committed by drop-outs.
- Low-income kids are five times more likely to drop out than other economic brackets.
- 74% of World Ocean School students are from low-income households.
World Ocean School shows students an alternative to disengagement—they can keep learning and thereby build successful lives and communities.
