Today feels like our first real day starting our Ocean Classroom Adventure. We started our morning with an 06:00 wakeup to have enough time to deep clean the camp we have been staying at and eat breakfast before loading our bags on the bus and heading off to Maine. The energy was high going into a four hour bus ride followed up with an hour ride on a lobster boat to the beautiful Hurricane Island. The afternoon spent on the bus was full of laughter and conversation. So far this group has proven to be positive and flexible with all the changes that come with COVID-19. Personally, I was the most excited for the boat ride, being the first moments spend on a boat before boarding the Roseway for the better part of two months. The sea was kind and the short journey was very pleasant. We were greeted by the staff that lives here on the Island. I was immediately struck by how pretty our home for the next three days is. My watch got to make dinner tonight which proved to be an adventure in Maine’s cold, wind, and dark September night. The chili turned out well, fortunately. With a 22:00 lights out, I am excited for tomorrow's explorations!
