We made it through our first day and night on Roseway! After a great send off in Boston Thursday afternoon we set sail and headed up towards the North Shore. It was so fun to finally be sailing after months of waiting and even though we weren’t quite sure what we were doing, it felt great. Due to some incoming weather we dropped anchor in Gloucester Harbor in the evening. The crew has been great since we got here and they’ve already taught us so much. We had anchor watch last night which is a bit different than what our normal watches are. Kingsley and I were on from 12am-1am and we had a list of things to check on the boat and one of the deckhands showed us all sorts of cool tricks and then before going to bed our awesome chef Sean had baked some brownies for everyone to have a treat during their watch. We started early this morning with chores before breakfast and everyone was happy to wake up in our new beds for the next couple months; it took me a second to remember we are finally on Roseway! We learned so much about the boat today and also went over all the different safety procedures, including trying on our emergency suits, which are called gumbie suits. They are big red suits that are really warm and cover your body head to toe. We all looked like big lobsters jumping around in the suits. I think that most of us would agree that was the highlight of the day. We also got to go out on the head rig today for the first time and it was really fun even though we were anchored, it’ll be so fun to be out there while we are sailing. We are all so happy to learn and grow, especially because at one point we weren’t sure if we would be able to with COVID-19. We are really excited for all the awesome experiences that lie ahead.
