At 0840 on this chilly, clear morning in Boston harbor, Roseway dropped lines for her final departure this year from the Courthouse dock. She's headed to the Gulf Stream, then on to Bermuda, and finally to her winter port of St. Croix. With eight deckhands, three guests, an engineer, a chief mate, a cook, and two captains on board, she is full of energy and excitment.
Roseway was originally set to depart November 7 but hurricane Tomas stalled that plan. By November 10, the second departure date set, Tomas's friends were stirring up a frenzy of 35 -foot waves and 40-50 knot gusts out in the Gulf Stream. We chose to stay put. Finally this morning we got clearance from the weather service that it was safe to proceed.
Once in St. Croix, hopefully in about 12 days, student programs begin right away and we're off and running for the season. While we love our summer port of Boston and look forward to seeing it again in May, it's nice to be underway again to warmer winds and seas.
