The day started off with a swim and a snorkel near Green Cay, checking out the fabulous sea fan forest. After swimming back to the boat and deck showers we raised the anchor, set all the sails and spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon sailing around the beautiful st. Croix waters. Students practiced navigation skills, boat checks and general seamanship and even participated in some safety drills. We made it back to the dock and celebrated Charlotte's 17th birthday. Everyone completed the rest of their training, sea stowed their bunks and we cast off lines and set sail at 1730. It is official, the Ashley Hall voyage to Charleston is underway. We enjoyed our last full crew meal underway with a beautiful sunset, motor sailing with the light winds and clear sky heading towards St. Thomas. It's been a fantastic start to this journey, and spirits are high. The stars are starting to appear, it looks like it will be a lovely night. The watches will start reporting their tales tomorrow.
