Our 2012 Discovery Bound Crew has left and we are already in full swing of Harborfest. It was a great group of students who learned a lot and were not necessarily anxious to get their feet back on land after 5 action packed days of ethics training, sailing, and preparation for their deckhand olympics. From tremendous whale watching in Stellwagen Bank, an early morning polar bear swim in Gloucester harbor, steering the boat, climbing the rig and the bowsprit, and even the daily chores on board, this team worked hard and worked together having fun, and clearly learning a lot. The feedback from the group indicated that they thought the crew was amazing and nearly all the students reported that they wished the trip was longer, having so much fun learning and working hard.
Claire reported, " I adored the crew! I learned so much and had the time of my life. Everything we did was so much fun."
Merran said, "Awesome. I learned a lot. The crew are great leaders and exemplified everything we were learning."
Kyra said, "I would love to stay and I will miss everything about this trip." Michael, said he will tell friends "it was life-changingly enjoyable. It was a fantastic experience. I learned a lot and wish I can do it again!"
While we already miss working with them, we are keeping ourselves busy in Boston Harbor spreading the word about what we do and helping to celebrate the maritime history present in the harbor through this 4th of July holiday.
