Today began at our beautiful anchorage in Great Salt Pond on Block Island. After an early breakfast, we ferried into shore to pile into taxi's ready to take us to the Oceanview Foundation's pavilion--the site of the former largest hotel in New England where the ruins still lay. There we assisted Kim in banding birds to help provide ornithologists with information on migration and habitats. Afterwards we continued with a lesson in art and nature provided by the Oceanview Foundation. We then hiked down to the beach, ate lunch, and went swimming. Later we worked with the Nature Conservancy learning about local marine ecosystems. Using a seine net we inspected a variety of local critters. After walking back to the boat basin to meet the small boat and return to Roseway, we ate burritos and sugar-smack treats. Chores were done and now we're off to the main salon to watch "Around Cape Horn" with Captain Tom. Tomorrow we set sail for New Bedford.
