French Dinner Funds Five Scholarships

Last night, Board member Pam Cunningham and her husband Tod, plus the whole Roseway crew hosted a fun event called "Merci at Mango Hill" to thank St Croix donors for their support of the World Ocean School's Summer Ambassador Program scholarship fund. The event was held on a glorious evening at the Cunningham’s home overlooking Christiansted, the harbor, and islands. Forty guests were served a four course french dinner prepared by Roseway chef, Jessica Reale, and served by Roseway crew.

The dinner provided full scholarships for five St. Croix students to participate in World Ocean School's 16-day summer program aboard Roseway--for some the first time they will have left the Virgin Islands. The five who have received scholarships are thrilled. Three scholarships are still needed to fund all the St. Croix students who have applied.

We are grateful for the hard work and hospitality of the Cunninghams as well as the guests who were so generous in their support.

Pam and Tod Cunningham plus the whole Roseway crew hosted a fun event to thank St Croix donors for their support of the World Ocean School's Summer Ambassador scholarship fund. The event was held on a glorious evening at the Cunningham’s home overlooking Christiansted, the harbor and islands. Through the scholarship fund five St. Croix students will be receiving scholarships for a 16-day summer program aboard Roseway - for some of these students this will be the first time they have left the Virgin Islands.

As part of the Summer Ambassador Program (a unique educational program designed for 12-16 year olds), they will be living and working on our National Landmark schooner Roseway with other students from all over the country as they sail the Great Lakes, carry out community service work in the ports they visit, and participate in the 2010 Tall Ships events. They will be expected to serve as ambassadors for St Croix in all the activities in which they participate. These students are also required to raise the funds to cover travel costs to and from the port of departure which requires a big effort on their part and ensures their up-front commitment to the program. This is a transformational experience for our St Croix students and has support from teachers, students and their families. As we go to press opportunities have arisen to provide three more scholarships to St Croix students, for those of you that would like more information about this program and how to get involved see www.worldoceanschool.org
