So today we boarded the Roseway without any knowledge of what was to come. We toured the ship and got familiar with the setting. We began with hoisting the sails for our first sail, which took a lot of teamwork. Even though it was hard to haul the sails. when we were sailing at 8 knots it felt rewarding. Along with raising sails we learned to coil lines. We learned names of certain downhauls and halyards, which makes us excited for the Junior Deckhand Olympics. Being on the ship made us worried about the dangers of a sailing ship, but once we went through emergency drills with Captain Wells, we immediately felt much safer. After our sail to Green Cay we had the amazing chance to go snorkeling. The experience was beautiful yet difficult due to the raging current. Although we don't know what's ahead of us we are incredibly excited for the rest of the trip!
