November 3, 2017: The day started out pretty rough with 3-6 foot seas and fairly heavy winds. Most of us were pretty stressed out this morning because we had our 5-8 page final paper due. This morning during science class, some of us were sitting on the cabin top and heard a loud snap and saw the jaw on the main gaff flying. “All hands to send the gaff down!” Was yelled by Miss Ordway and Captain. The rest of the day was spent helping with the gaff if on watch or relaxing if off watch. After the hard work of taking down the main gaff, fixing it, etc. Matthew rewarded us with a relaxing literature class. We sat on the deck closing our eyes taking in all of our surroundings and listening to him read to us. It was a great day aboard Roseway.
