Colorado Springs: Day Three

We started off today snorkeling around Buck Island again. However, we explored a different side of the island. We spotted some pretty cool critters, including more nurse sharks and even a dolphin from the ship! After a morning of snorkel-filled fun, we got underway back to Green Cay, the same place as the previous night. Today was a big step forward for us being able to run the ship. We were tested by a guerrilla attack of safety drills: a fire drill and a man overboard drill. Luckily, we successfully rescued Oscar, our “man overboard”/soccer ball. Each day, we have taken more and more control of running the ship (i.e. raising and lowering the sails). After anchoring near Green Cay, we spend the afternoon studying maritime navigation within our watch groups. We learned about charts, plotting a course, and finding our ship’s location. We concluded a busy day with delicious pulled pork sandwiches from our amazing chef Nick, welcomed Charlotte, our newest crew member, and guessed the area of the crew members, all under a spectacular Caribbean sunset. And many of the group helped crew member Greg fish off of the bow and were successful in bringing in an 18-inch mackerel (cero) that was filleted for future tasting!
