The Roseway crew has had a busy month, sailing with Pearl B Larsen and Ricardo Richards students. After discussing community values and why they’re important on and off the ship, students help raise sails and learn what it means to be a sailor. They spend their first days learning knots and coiling, before diving into the complicated forces at work on the Roseway, like buoyancy and the principle of lift. After spending Wednesday at the dock, climbing the rig and exploring the ship, they’re back sailing on Thursday. Many students step outside their comfort zone on the bowsprit, enjoying the salt spray and looking for dolphins and whales. Friday brings a delicious treasure hunt and a reluctance to leave. After a week of sailing together, the students are practically crew and it’s with big smiles that they tell us they want to come back. Each student brings their own unique energy to the program and the Roseway crew has had a blast working with them these past few weeks. We’ll miss seeing their smiling faces every day and look forward to seeing them again!
