Despite being born and raised in Palos Park, Illinois, Jess has always been drawn to the oceans and is fascinated by the intersection of science, policy and culture that shape our relationship with the water. While majoring in Environmental Studies at Gettysburg College, Jess also discovered a passion for experiential education and working with youth. After teaching in Japan for a year, conducting geospatial analysis research with NASA, and facilitating backpacking and climbing trips with Outward Bound California, Jess joined World Ocean School in 2016 as a Deckhand Educator. She is excited to now serve as Program Manager and to create programs that help students grow, connect, and reach goals in an incredible and dynamic environment.
When she's not on the water, Jess spends a lot of her free time in the mountains, backpacking and rock climbing. She also loves attending live storytelling performances, discovering new podcasts, and working out.
