Hometown: LaPorte, IN
School: Eckerd College
Previous sailing experience: I did not grow up around sailing. My knowledge comes from having avid sailing friends.
Previous teaching experience: I taught various sports teams and helped with my church's Sunday school through high school and college. After college, I coached high school girls soccer. I then began an internship at Cape Eleuthera Institute where I was able to teach students from the Island School along with visiting groups about marine plastics and bonefish. Most recently, I served as the Marine Debris AmeriCorps member at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center where I was involved in teaching visitors of all ages about marine pollution and working with groups outside the center on beach and marsh cleanups.
Hobbies: I enjoy all sports and competitively played soccer and beach volleyball. I love puzzles, swimming, hiking, listening to music, reading in a hammock, and anything that gets me outside.
Why I’m excited to work for World Ocean School: Although I have never sailed on board traditionally rigged schooners, I have done similar work in my prior experiences and I am looking forward to colliding old skills with new ones. I am excited for the growth that will come from traveling, working with people and teaching people of different backgrounds, and immersing myself in environments not everyone will get the chance to experience. I am more than excited to join the World Ocean School's adventures!
