Summer Ambassador Program: Youth Sailing Expedition aboard Roseway

Student Program

2018 Voyage Information Coming Soon

World Ocean School promotes stimulating experiential education while fostering an appreciation for and a commitment to community and relationships, and cultivating an expanded world view. The curriculum is carried out in the formal setting of the ship’s classroom, in small groups on ship watches, and in the field on shore visits. Each student keeps an individual journal as well as participates in a nautical book club and various community service projects throughout the voyage. There is tremendous exploration both on and off the water: sailing, hiking and community building.

In Summer 2017, nineteen students ages 12-16 set sail for the Long Island Sound for ten days—expanding their perspective of the world, immersing themselves in and contributing to different cultures, and practicing community building aboard the historic landmark schooner Roseway. During their expedition at sea, students learned and practiced seamanship and navigation as they operated and maintained the 137-foot schooner that was their home, as well as carrying out lessons in maritime history, community-building, and ethics.
